SKILLCARD « Sous-groupe : caractérisation » — MPSI

Quand l’utiliser ?

Pour montrer qu'une partie d'un groupe est un groupe, sans revérifier les axiomes.

La règle

H≠∅et∀x,y∈H, xy−1∈HH \neq \varnothing \quad\text{et}\quad \forall x,y \in H,\ x y^{-1} \in H

La méthode

  1. Vérifier H⊂GH \subset G et e∈He \in H.
  2. Prendre x,y∈Hx, y \in H et montrer xy−1∈Hxy^{-1} \in H.

Exemple

Un\mathbb{U}_n dans (C∗,×)(\mathbb{C}^*, \times) : 1∈Un1 \in \mathbb{U}_n ; (xy−1)n=1(xy^{-1})^n = 1 si xn=yn=1x^n = y^n = 1. ⇒ Un\mathbb{U}_n est un sous-groupe.

Les pièges à éviter

En notation additive, la condition devient x−y∈Hx - y \in H.
